Meet safely out there
via is about meeting real people in real places. That's the magic — and it deserves a little common sense. Whether it's a first meetup or a fifth, keep these in mind:
Meet in public, stay in public.
First meetups should happen at busy spots — a via verified location is a great choice. Skip private homes and pickups until you genuinely know someone. If plans suddenly change to somewhere private, it's okay to cancel.
Tell a friend.
Before you go, tell someone you trust where you're going, who you're meeting, and when you expect to be back. Check in with them after.
Get there and home on your own.
Arrange your own transportation both ways, so you're never dependent on someone you just met to get home.
Keep personal details personal.
Don't share your last name, home or work address, phone number, or financial information with someone you haven't met — and never put them in your profile. Keep conversations inside via until you've met in person.
Never send money.
No matter how convincing the story, never send cash, gift cards, crypto, or wire transfers to someone you met on via. Requests for money are the biggest red flag there is — report them to us immediately.
Stay clear-headed.
Keep an eye on your drink, and know your limits. It's easier to trust your instincts when your head is clear.
Trust that gut.
If something feels off, it probably is. You never owe anyone your time — leave, then block and report them in the app. We review every report.
via does not conduct criminal background screenings of its members. Anyone can be anyone, so bring your judgment along. If you are ever in immediate danger, contact local authorities first — then let us know at hello@wemetvia.com.
